Escape to the Dorset Countryside at Pleasant Spot

One of our favourite moments at Pleasant Spot comes at the end of the day. As the sun begins to set across the surrounding fields, the horses make their way back to the stables, birds settle into the hedgerows, and the Dorset countryside becomes wonderfully quiet.

It’s a simple moment, but it captures exactly what makes staying here so special.

Set in the countryside near Buckland Newton, between Dorchester and Sherborne, Pleasant Spot is a place where you can slow down, switch off, and enjoy the simple pleasures of rural Dorset.

A Cottage Full of Character

The original part of the cottage is believed to date back to the late 1700s, and many of its character features remain today.

Low ceilings, exposed beams, and traditional cottage charm give the house a warm and welcoming atmosphere. While it has been thoughtfully extended over the years, it still retains the character and comfort that make a country cottage feel like home.

From the moment you step through the door, it’s easy to leave everyday life behind.

Life in the Dorset Countryside

The cottage sits within its own private grounds overlooking rolling fields and open countryside.

Mornings begin with birdsong and far-reaching views across the landscape, while evenings bring spectacular sunsets and peaceful surroundings. It’s the perfect setting for a morning coffee on the patio or a quiet glass of wine at the end of the day.

One of the things guests often comment on is the connection to rural life. The cottage is accessed through a secure yard beside our stables, where you’ll often hear the gentle sound of horses returning home for their evening feed.

You’ll also meet Middy and Shumba, our resident farm cats, who have become part of daily life at Pleasant Spot.

Walking and Exploring from the Doorstep

One of the joys of staying here is that you don’t need to get in the car to start exploring.

Walking and cycling routes lead directly from the cottage into the surrounding countryside, allowing guests to discover quiet lanes, rolling hills, and hidden corners of rural Dorset.

Just over the hill lies the famous Cerne Abbas Giant, one of Dorset’s most recognisable landmarks and well worth a visit.

The historic market towns of Dorchester and Sherborne are both within easy reach and make excellent day trips for shopping, restaurants, and local history.

A Place to Slow Down

Whether you’re planning a family holiday, a walking break, or simply looking for somewhere peaceful to escape the demands of everyday life, Pleasant Spot offers exactly that.

For us, it’s the combination of countryside views, historic character, horses, wildlife, and complete tranquillity that makes this little corner of Dorset so special.

It’s not about rushing from one attraction to the next. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the landscape, and reconnecting with the simple pleasures of country life.
